Kick Butts Day Award Ceremony, 2019

Every year at our Kick Butts Day: Take Down Tobacco event, we present awards to a few of our amazing Chapters, an Adult Advisor, and a Statewide Youth Leader! Take a look at the awards we will be presenting and this year’s nominees!

Statewide Youth Leadership Award

Statewide Youth Leadership Award: Given to a youth leader who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to promote the social norm that most youth do not smoke and who embodies what it means to be a community leader.

This year’s Statewide Youth Leadership Award winner is Ishivita Bali from the Somerville Positive Forces Chapter! Congratulations on your hard work and dedication to tobacco prevention, Ishivita!

Adult Advisor Award

Adult Advisor Award: Given to an adult advisor who has shown an extraordinary amount of dedication to youth tobacco prevention and promoting youth voice

Nominees:

  • Laura Assade – Salem Youth Commission
  • Caitlin Abber – Allston Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force
  • Mary Clougher – Holbrook Middle High School
  • John Daley – Push Up Peer Leadership Program
  • Bob Savarino – Melrose Youth Action Team

This year’s winner is Adult Advisor Mary Clougher from Holbrook Middle High School! Congrats, Mary! 

Chapter Awards

Outstanding Chapter Award: Given to a Chapter based on posts on their Chapter page or The 84 closed Facebook group; emails from Community Partnerships and Boards of Health that detail work done by the Chapter; activities they have done; and The 84 staff involvement with Chapter youth at trainings.

Nominees:

  • Allston Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force
  • Waltham Trailblazers
  • Holbrook Middle High School

This year’s winner is Holbrook Middle High School! Congrats, Holbrook!

Local Community Change Award: Given to a Chapter for demonstrating exemplary efforts in advancing local policies that reduce youth exposure to tobacco industry tactics 

Nominees:

  • PUSH-Up Peer Leadership Program
  • Lawrence Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force
  • Salem Youth Commission

This year’s winner is PUSH-Up Peer Leadership Program! Congratulations!

Peer Outreach Award: Given to a Chapter for demonstrating exemplary efforts in reaching young people with The 84 Movement message.

Nominees:

  • Woburn Memorial High School SADD
  • TEASA
  • Melrose High School Youth Action Team
