The 84 Movement held its first ever Statewide Leadership Conference this past weekend — and it was a blast! Seventeen members of The 84’s Statewide Leadership Team spent three days in Boston participating in workshops and doing lots of fun activities. Workshops were about The 84 Movement’s messaging and local priority policies, public health, health equity, tobacco, media interviewing skills, and more.
“The connection between the Statewide Leadership Team and 84 staff is amazing,” says Elizabeth Lovern, a sophomore Statewide Leader from The 93 Club Chapter in Gardner, after her weekend at the Statewide Leadership Conference.
“I had a great time over the weekend,” echoed Janice Tang, a sophomore from the Melrose Youth Action Team Chapter. “The conference will help my work in tobacco because I learned more about targeting the problem, revealing Big Tobacco’s tactics, and how to advocate for local policies.”
We look forward to seeing how our Statewide Leaders continue their local community work after a weekend dedicated to amping up the tools in their tobacco prevention toolbox. This is what youth power is all about.
If you are inspired by the awesome work of our awesome Statewide Leaders, there is still time to apply for a mini-grant, or have an 84 Movement training for your Chapter.
