Staff Feature: Sherley Ortiz-Robles

Sherley Ortiz-Robles, Intern

In order to highlight all the incredible staff, youth, adults, and Chapters who are part of The 84 Movement, we have decided to start new monthly feature posts! We will interview some of these key people to get to know them a little better.

This month our staff feature is our summer intern, Sherley Ortiz-Robles!

Where are your from?

I am from Lynn, MA.

What is your favorite food?

Tomato Avocado melt sandwiches

What is your role with The 84 Movement?

I am a member of the Statewide Leadership Team and have been interning for the 84 this summer!

How did you first learn about The 84?

I learned about the 84 through Girls Inc’s Part of the Solution Peer leader program

What is your favorite part about working with The 84?

Getting to see the impact we have on Massachusetts youth. We have a positive and encouraging message that empowers youth. When I see youth fighting for their communities safety and health and witness the impact of our program, it makes me very happy. It makes it all worth it.

What is one thing you HAVE to have on your desk at all times?

Headphones for music!

What is one of the funniest moments you have had in the office?

Walking into a meeting that was taking place and not realizing it until someone told me. It was really awkward at first but we laugh about it now!

What is one message you have for youth about their role in tobacco control?

Working in tobacco control isn’t the easiest thing in the world. Sometimes there are days when you feel like giving up or you’ve been told no. To work in this area is a choice. You choose what you fight for, there’s always a reason why- something or someone that motivates you. Remember that! No matter how young you are or how much experience you’ve had, there’s always something you can do to help. So remember what motivates you and keep fighting!
