Where are your from?
I am from Prairie Village, Kansas. I had electricity and running water. Don’t worry.
What is your favorite food?
Potatoes. In any form. Baked, mashed, grilled, scalloped, fried, fry-form. Love them all.
What is your role with The 84 Movement?
I am a Program Associate. Basically, I oversee mini-grants, all social media and web content, and I am the lead trainer for the program (which is my favorite part).
How did you first learn about The 84?
I was looking for a job where I could work with youth again. I have done various forms of youth work for much of my career and in my search, I found a posting for The 84. Tobacco was not a field that was a passion of mine at the time but you better believe I have serious passion about it now.
What is your favorite part about working with The 84?
Ok but, like, this is really hard. I would say two parts equally; working with youth and getting to provide education and support on such an important topic and getting to spend every day collaborating with such an amazing team of coworkers.
What is one thing you HAVE to have on your desk at all times?
My water bottle. I am kind of obsessive about drinking water and have made everyone on the team get on that train.
What is one of the funniest moments you have had in the office?
It was probably something I did or said because I am, obviously, the most hilarious member of The 84 team. Seriously, ask any of them. They would agree.
What is one message you have for youth about their role in tobacco control?
So many adults do not understand young people and, what’s worse, they don’t even care to try. That should NEVER dim your shine or make you believe that you can’t do something as a young person. Youth are the most influential people in our society. That’s just the facts. So, if you have something to say, stand up and say it. You have the power and remember, I will always have your back.
