Wednesday May 2nd, 2018, was another successful Kick Butts Day! There were 100+ youth from across the state who marched to the State House and met with their legislators to discuss how tobacco affects their communities.
The youth marched to the State House and together attended 70 visits with their local legislators, providing education about what they see in their communities. Can you say #youthpower?!
The day ended with remarks from Commissioner Dr. Monica Bharel, Representative Kate Hogan, Representative Paul McMurtry, Representative Sean Garballey, Senator Jason Lewis, and the Director of the Tobacco Free Mass Coalition, Gwen Stewart. Together with the Statewide Leadership Team, they discussed how the tobacco industry makes their products sweet, cheap, and easy to get. We also recognized Chapters who have done exceptional work this year with our Chapter Awards Ceremony!
We received numerous emails of praise, including one community partner who wrote: “I thought it was absolutely wonderful. The young people I interacted with were knowledgeable, confident and respectful. Nicely trained and prepared…All in all, a spectacular day!
Thank you to all the youth and adult advisors that joined us for this incredible event. We hope this inspires you to keep fighting back in your communities! #The84KBD
