Michel Jimenez, a sophomore at Lawrence High School and a member of the Statewide Leadership Team, was one of 22 teens form across the country selected as a National Youth Ambassador representing Massachusetts with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Last month, Michael visited Washington, D.C. to participate in a Youth Advocacy Symposium, a five-day workshop that builds skills in advocacy, communications, and leadership.
Michael met with U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey to discuss the need for strong FDA regulation of all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and cigars that are sold in a huge assortment of sweet flavors and are popular among youth.
Michael describes his experience as “breathtaking! Amazing food, amazing people…everything was amazing. I loved every aspect of it and loved everything I learned throughout the week. It was a handful but learning ways on how to master the media and taking down tobacco really has made a huge difference on how I run my tobacco prevention work!”
We are proud to have a strong advocate like Michael representing The 84!
