FALL RIVER — Four local non-profit organizations will be recognized this month with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees’ Outstanding School Partner Award.

The Fall River Rotary Club, Peaceful Coalition, BOLD Coalition and Katie Brown Educational Program will receive the honor during the Thursday, May 12, meeting of the Diman School Committee, scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. in the conference at Diman, 251 Stonehaven Road.

MASC started the Outstanding School Partner Award to recognize community partners in the state that assist schools with educating students. These four local organizations were nominated by the Diman School Committee and then were selected by the MASC Board of Directors.

The Fall Rotary Club engages students with scholarships, vocational awareness, school supplies and school-sponsored clubs at B.M.C. Durfee High School, Bristol Community College and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. With the goal of creating a healthy life style for youth, the BOLD Coalition creates events that discourage drug, tobacco or alcohol abuse.

By entering local schools to teach alternatives to relationship violence, the Katie Brown Educational Program promotes the key elements of respectful relationships. Started at Durfee in 1997, the Peaceful Coalition has developed into a community organization that discourages gang violence by engaging at-risk youth in a variety of positive-focused activities.
