Wednesday April 26, 2017, was another successful Kick Butts Day! There were 140+ youth from across the state who marched to the State House and met with their legislators to discuss how tobacco affects their communities.
The day began with remarks from Commissioner Dr. Monica Bharel, Representative Kate Hogan, Representative Paul McMurtry, and Senator Jason Lewis. Together with the Statewide Leadership Team, they discussed how the tobacco industry makes their products sweet, cheap, and easy to get.
The youth marched to the State House and together attended 80 visits with their local legislators, providing education about what they see in their communities. Can you say #youthpower?!
We received numerous emails of praise, including one community partner who wrote: “Wow – what a great day yesterday! So incredibly well organized, so well-timed, an incredible feat for an event with so many moving parts.”
One Statewide Leadership Team member said: “You helped us go up and do something we never would’ve imagined doing ourselves. It was all of your efforts and motivation instilled in us that allowed to shine the way we did.”
Thank you to all the youth and adult advisors that joined us for this incredible event. We hope this inspires you to keep fighting back in your communities! #The84KBD
