Most South Hadley High School students looked pretty confused at the black posters in the two cafs for the Great American Smoke-Out, but when the Peer Leaders started talking about it and explaining what the cards were, lots of kids jumped in to do it. Some kids even put down that they were former smokers who were proud that they quit! That was pretty cool. Mrs. Pio took a lot of pictures and everybody liked that part, standing up to show they were against Big Tobacco. Some things that the students at our school wrote were" Dirty", "It's nasty!", "It should be illegal" and "You won't get me!" It was fun to see kids talking about it at the tables. At first they looked like they weren't sure what they thought, but when we asked them "Do yuo think anybody should encourage teenaghers to smoke?" absolutely everybody said NO. The Peer Leaders stuck all the cards up on the wall where everybody coming into the area could read them and think about what the Great American Smoke-Out means.
